We had a lot of fun things planned to do with the kids today to help distract them from not going to MA to visit. I guess our "picnic" dinner last night was a hit because Nathan requested that we eat breakfast there too this morning :)
Our first stop today was to the very busy mall (not sure if we really thought this one through! The mall two Saturdays before Christmas= nightmare!!) to visit Santa. They were all pretty excited about this. We waited in the very long line and discussed what we would say to Santa. It was interesting because none of them could think of anything that they wanted for Christmas! By the time it was our turn they all had something in mind that they would ask Santa for. Nate was the most excited as we waited. He watched all of the other children go up and sit on Santa's lap smiling and asking when it would be his turn.
After the mall we went to McDonald's Play Place (kid's choice, obviously) for lunch and to burn off some energy after standing in line all that time.
Finally we went home. Whew, what a day! We all relaxed after dinner watching some classic Christmas movies.
We had a fun day, although it didn't compare to a Christmas party at Nana and Grandpa's house! We thought about our family a lot today and the mess that they are all in at the moment from the effects of the ice storm on Thursday. My sister and brother-in-law borrowed a generator from someone so that they would be able to leave the hotel and and return home. My poor cousin has 3 inches of water in her basement and can't pump it out until the power comes back. The only person in my family I know of that has power is one of my aunts who happens to live in the the tiniest apartment ever (not even joking). She has no room for anyone to stay with her, so people are just stopping by to use the shower and stuff. As far as I know Barbara, Jake and Christine are all still without power too. Oh, I feel so badly. I hope that it gets fixed soon and that life can go back to normal for all of you :)

Sounds just like the Santa experience from last year, except even Abby was frightened then. Santa came to our play group and even gave each of the children presents and I remember Nate literally clinging to me. He was seriously terrified. Then when Santa left the boys wanted to talk to him. Good grief!
gotta love nate! i kinda saw that coming. it's sooo strange how children get all pumped to see santa then poof, stage fright.
stinks that you didn't get to come up this past weekend, but i don't think you really wanted to be here...it was the worst.
you really did make it a fun weekend regardless.
